4 Ways to Reset Your Home

If you have worked from home over the past year (or longer), if you have kids, or if you have recently moved into a new home, you may feel like the ‘stuff’ in your home is taking over. Your junk drawer is exploding, your decorative pillows are all over the floor, and your closet? Let’s not even go there. Needless to say, no matter why you need a home reset, it can be hard to do. Decluttering and cleaning up is challenging, to say the least. But, with a few tricks and tips, it can be much easier! Here are a few ways to reset your home – without the added stress!

Focus on what you need

First of all, to reset your home, you absolutely need to declutter. But, to do that, you have to focus on what you want. That means knowing what you want…or should I say, what you need. Spend some time thinking about your values. Strip it all down to the bare bones of your life and figure out what you need and what is most important to you and to your family. What makes you happy? What makes you proud? Ask yourself these important questions to get started. What really fuels you and gets you out of bed each morning? Instead of prioritizing THINGS, these are the things that you need to prioritize instead.

Keep in mind – there really are no right answers to these questions. Each person is different. If you love art, you might have an art studio in your home full of pencils, crayons, markers, paints, brushes, canvas, etc. To some, this would be cluttered and unnecessary, but to an artist, that is stripping down to the bare necessities – the things that they need to make them happy.

No matter what your priorities may be, make them your daily focus, by getting rid of the distractions in your home and in your life, as well. Say no to shopping and instead, say yes to becoming financially secure. Say no to going out each weekend and instead, say yes to spending more time with the people that you love. Once you start focusing more on the things that fuels your fire, the minimalist lifestyle will begin to feel like a natural choice, instead of something that you are trying to force, without knowing where to start.

Get rid of things you haven’t used in the last year

As you are going through the deluterring process, you have to face the fact that if you haven’t used an item in the last year, it is highly unlikely you really need it or that you are going to ever get enough use out of it to justify cluttering up your home. Take the plunge and get rid of it! Ask yourself these questions as you encounter each piece of clutter:

• Do I use this?

• How long has it been since I’ve used it?

• Will I use it again?

• Is it worth the space it takes up in my house?

Remember: The objective is to get stuff out of your home, not to move it into another room. You will be amazed by the sheer volume of unused and unneeded items in your home. Don’t spend time inventing reasons to keep these things.

Rearrange the layout

One great way to reset your home AND to create more open space within your home is to rearrange the layout. If your home has looked the same for years, you might be initially reluctant to take this step, but it could make a huge difference. Repositioning larger items like beds, sofas, and dressers to the edges and corners of the room can provide more space for you and your family + pets to enjoy and entertain. Think about the layout of your home and where the main foot traffic will be, as you will want to keep these areas clear. Don’t do all of the work yourself, though.

Use a moving company, such as College Dudes Help U Move, so that you do not have to lift a finger while moving the larger furniture around your home. They are a Charlotte NC hot tub moving company, but also do full-service residential and commercial moving, labor-only moving, and offer a ton of other services like packing, delivery services, storage solutions, and much more. They have a 4.6 star rating on Facebook, they are accredited by the BBB, and they are Angie’s list certified + part of the North Carolina Movers Association, so you can rest easy that your furniture is in good hands. No matter if you need help with a full move, or just moving your furniture around, it is easy to grab a quote from them.

Add things back in that do bring you joy

Once you declutter your home and fine-tune the new layout, bring things back into your home that brings you joy. This can be something as simple as different throw pillows, or outdoor furniture to help you enjoy your outdoor space more often. It also might be adding pictures of your family to your walls! Whatever it is – bring it back in, only if it brings you joy!

These are just a few ways to reset your home, but they can be so beneficial when it comes to getting rid of the clutter (+ stress that the clutter brings) and getting back to a home that you love!

Christmas Decor + Favorites from Wayfair!

Winter Door Decor With Wreath Ideas

Happy Holidays! There’s a lot to love about this time of year! Life has gotten insanely busy, so I apologize for the lack of posts lately. In the midst of all the craziness I found time to decorate for Christmas a bit earlier this year. I wanted to get lots of time to really enjoy it! Whenever I need some decor inspiration, Wayfair is my go-to! They always have a big selection of home decor items to choose from and they arrive on my doorstep in no time!

I’m excited to share today about some simple ways I am updating my home for Christmas this year. This post is in partnership with Wayfair and fellow blogger, Lindsay!  Keep reading for a peek into how I decorated for Christmas this year! I hope you find some inspiration for decorating your own home!

HOLIDAY DECORATING 2018

Our little one is now at the age where he really “gets it,” which means = LOTS OF FUN!  Christmastime means lots  Christmas movies on repeat, tons of baking, making my favorite (and easy!) gingerbread houses, plenty of family outings, and of course, Christmas pj’s!

I have several Holiday Decorating Traditions that remain the same year after year. Don’t forget to check out last year’s post to see what a few of our Decorating Traditions are if you missed it!  This year I kept with the same color scheme and just made a few subtle changes and additions. Last year was our first year with a flocked tree and I fell in love with the look of flocked trees with mixed metals with pops of red!

Decorating all year long with mixed metals is my favorite! I also love bringing outdoor elements into our home.  Makes the overall feel warm and cozy, yet still put-together!  If I had to describe my decor style it would be rustic glam, but I like elements of several different styles.

I like a good balance between the two, adding only a few elements of each here and there. A girl can never have too many fluffy throws and pillows to cozy up with! I am still loving this shaggy sherpa throw in our family room, although this one is on my radar!

I used the same mixed metal ornaments this year … because I LOVE them and will never get tired of them! To switch things up, I just added sheer red ribbon in with the burlap ribbon from last year and made both go vertically down the tree instead of horizontally around the tree like last year.

I love the way it all turned out! Adding ribbon to the tree always gives it a little something extra and gives lots of texture.

Mixing some matte red ornaments with shiny red ornaments with a little texture are great to use for some visual interest.  I had fun adding some oversized mixed metal ornaments here and there as well. I used the same tree topper this year, but added some snowman hat fillers and lightly frosted berry sticks, as well.

I also used the same woodland creature themed table runner that I used last year. I filled vases and tins with decorative pinecones and used the same wood slices on the end tables that I keep out all year long.

One thing that I was so happy to add to the decor this year was this gorgeous FAO Schwarz train set around the tree! Our son loves it, and it was a sweet early Christmas gift from his Great Grandma. It’s definitely something that will be super special for our little family for years and years!

He loves to watch it go round and round and even likes to read his little Christmas books by the train 🙂  The mixed metal (with pops of red) design of the train set fit in perfectly with the other decor I have going on this year.

For the white sofas, the holiday pillow covers from Wayfair that I ordered last year are still going strong! They pull in the red pops from the tree and the midnight blue tone in the rug perfectly!

Having a white base helps when it comes to adding bold pillows. Cute little red truck pillow (from the Target Dollar Spot) add some fun!

I kept the wreath and the bell hanger on the door the same this year, with the exception of adding a bit more color with the mini-glass ornaments.  Lots of candlelight always brings such warmth to all holiday decor!

Adding lots of pretty candles + holders to display throughout the home  is so simple , yet makes a huge impact! Anything that lights up is usually a big hit with kids , too! I always like to add any extra ornaments I have to pretty apothecary jars to decorate our bar area. Simple and looks festive!

I kept the holiday drink station really simple by adding fun mugs and this Winter Bucket List. Holiday flavored creamer and coffee really makes a drink station festive! Don’t forget the hot chocolate!

I added a few small things to JP’s room this year, including a 4 ft tree that’s just his size! He was happy to help mommy decorate it this year. I kept things simple and did a vintage Christmas and snowman theme.

He has been really into having the tree and some decor in his room this year!

He picked out the little red truck ornament and he loves to read by the little tree at bedtime!

Our front porch even got a little update by adding a simple lightly flocked wreath with pinecones hung by a darling little snowflake wreath hanger. I wanted something that I could leave up all winter long, not just for Christmastime!

My goal when decorating and shopping for Christmas is always to make my home reflective of the true beauty of the season; the birth of Christ. Just as I said last year:

“A warm, pretty, and welcoming atmosphere is really easy to create when you focus on filling your home with the people and the things that you truly love.”

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and got some good ideas from it to use in your own home! Below I have listed some things on my wishlist at Wayfair.com. Just click each image to shop!

Home Decor Inspiration

Home-Decor-Inspiration-for-Summer

Hey friends! I’ve been really inspired lately while shopping around online for home decor! Summer time is a great time to refresh things around the house and to pull in some softer colors. As usual, I’m into mixing metals, so you’ll see lots of that in this collection of goodies 🙂  Rounding up some really good finds for the home for today’s post. Just click each item name to shop! Enjoy!

  1. This Seagrass headboard is unique and so unexpected! I love the idea of it in a guest room so that it really feels like a little getaway for your guests!
  2. How soft and pretty is this light fixture?
  3. I love the acrylic handles and gold detailing on this storage cabinet!
  4. Crisp and welcoming all-white bedding is always a winner! Makes it so easy to add fun throw blankets and pillows to jazz it up.
  5. Poufs are so fun and are a good way to add interest to any space (plus … extra storage when you need it!)
  6. Rose gold clock? Yes, please!
  7. Love the colors and design of this accent pillow. Mixing a shaggy faux fur pillow or two with this one would look really chic.
  8. Sunburst mirrors are fabulous to add anywhere in your home.
  9. I love how pretty and timeless this vase is. Because it’s so simple, really colorful flowers will pop!
  10. What’s a cozy room without a nice throw? This one is nice and neutral to go with any other decor.
  11. Accent Chairs are great in larger hallway spaces, offices, living spaces, and even bedrooms.
  12. This is the prettiest floor mirror!
  13. More rose gold! Loving the simplicity and the shiny texture on this candle holder.
  14. An outdoor furniture set is a necessity for summer and this one looks stylish and functional. I would love this with some fabulous outdoor pillows, rug, and a fire pit to go along with it.
  15. Blue and White Ginger Jars are my favorite!

Top 5 Ways to Update Your Home with Wayfair

Hope your January was great and you have been able to keep personal goals + resolutions that you made! I’ve been able to stick most of mine so far, which makes you feel AMAZING, right?! Today I have a special blog post in collaboration with Wayfair. Let’s chat about my Top 5 Resolutions in Decor. Hopefully you’ll get some ideas for simple ways you can update your own home this year!

Decor Resolution #1: Flowers Galore!

Decor Resolutions for 2018 with Wayfair

Ahhh, whats not to love about waking up to fresh flowers on your nightstand or seeing a gorgeous arrangement of flowers in your living room? One resolution I have for this year is to always keep fresh flowers in my house. Simple arrangements look gorgeous and instantly boost the mood! I have been loving the look of mostly white bouquets for now, but once spring and summer come along, more color will be great as I swap out my throw pillows and accessories!

Decor Resolution #2: Desk, Bathroom, and Toiletry Organization

top 5 ways to update Your home in 2018 with Wayfair

Having my own designated space to create makes me more productive and focused. I know that my best work always comes when I am in a space that reflects my style and that feels light and airy. So this year I am looking for unique ways to organize my desk, while keeping with a chic & minimalistic approach. I also want to display my fragrances in a fun way in the master somehow…possibly a galvanized tiered tray on the bathroom vanity.

Decor Resolution #3: Add More Coffee Table Books, Decorative Trays, & Unique Trinkets

Top 5 Ways to Update Your Home in 2018_Wayfair

Not only are coffee table books good conversation starters, but they functional and stylish on side tables, shelves, and coffee tables. Need a little height? Add a stack of your favorite coffee table books to an arrangement to instantly give it more interest.  It’s nice to relax a little while flipping through the pages of a beautiful coffee table book. This is where I get lots of ideas and inspiration.

Decor Resolution #4: YES to All Things Cozy (and mirrored)!

Top 5 ways to update your home for 2018 Wayfair

The whole rustic glam style has my heart! There’s just something pretty and intriguing about mixing the extremities of super feminine and glam with the more natural, rustic and masculine elements. With this decorating style, balance is key. The idea is for things to feel warm and inviting at all times, so I’ll be adding even more cozy, natural elements to our home this year. Luxe textures: faux fur throws, fuzzy throw pillows, and mirrored pieces are always welcome here! Bench seating gets more cozy with a throw and decorative pillow or two. Adding a blanket ladder is a great way to store extras for guests!

Decor Resolution #5: Add a Chandelier to the Master Closet

Top 5 ways to update your home for 2018 with wayfair

Adding a chandelier to our master closet has been on the list for some time now, and this year is going to be THE year! A chandelier would be perfect in that space and will coordinate well with the bedding, decor, and airy overall vibe. I’ve paired down my wardrobe significantly by donating a ton of things, thanks to this book by Mari Condo. If you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out! Feels great to purge and have only the things I absolutely love and feel my best in. Besides … I’m the only girl in the house, so adding a pretty sparkly chandelier has to happen, right? 🙂
