Happy Holidays! There’s a lot to love about this time of year! Life has gotten insanely busy, so I apologize for the lack of posts lately. In the midst of all the craziness I found time to decorate for Christmas a bit earlier this year. I wanted to get lots of time to really enjoy it! Whenever I need some decor inspiration, Wayfair is my go-to! They always have a big selection of home decor items to choose from and they arrive on my doorstep in no time!
I’m excited to share today about some simple ways I am updating my home for Christmas this year. This post is in partnership with Wayfair and fellow blogger, Lindsay! Keep reading for a peek into how I decorated for Christmas this year! I hope you find some inspiration for decorating your own home!
HOLIDAY DECORATING 2018
Our little one is now at the age where he really “gets it,” which means = LOTS OF FUN! Christmastime means lots Christmas movies on repeat, tons of baking, making my favorite (and easy!) gingerbread houses, plenty of family outings, and of course, Christmas pj’s!
I have several Holiday Decorating Traditions that remain the same year after year. Don’t forget to check out last year’s post to see what a few of our Decorating Traditions are if you missed it! This year I kept with the same color scheme and just made a few subtle changes and additions. Last year was our first year with a flocked tree and I fell in love with the look of flocked trees with mixed metals with pops of red!
Decorating all year long with mixed metals is my favorite! I also love bringing outdoor elements into our home. Makes the overall feel warm and cozy, yet still put-together! If I had to describe my decor style it would be rustic glam, but I like elements of several different styles.
I like a good balance between the two, adding only a few elements of each here and there. A girl can never have too many fluffy throws and pillows to cozy up with! I am still loving this shaggy sherpa throw in our family room, although this one is on my radar!
I used the same mixed metal ornaments this year … because I LOVE them and will never get tired of them! To switch things up, I just added sheer red ribbon in with the burlap ribbon from last year and made both go vertically down the tree instead of horizontally around the tree like last year.
I love the way it all turned out! Adding ribbon to the tree always gives it a little something extra and gives lots of texture.
Mixing some matte red ornaments with shiny red ornaments with a little texture are great to use for some visual interest. I had fun adding some oversized mixed metal ornaments here and there as well. I used the same tree topper this year, but added some snowman hat fillers and lightly frosted berry sticks, as well.
I also used the same woodland creature themed table runner that I used last year. I filled vases and tins with decorative pinecones and used the same wood slices on the end tables that I keep out all year long.
One thing that I was so happy to add to the decor this year was this gorgeous FAO Schwarz train set around the tree! Our son loves it, and it was a sweet early Christmas gift from his Great Grandma. It’s definitely something that will be super special for our little family for years and years!
He loves to watch it go round and round and even likes to read his little Christmas books by the train 🙂 The mixed metal (with pops of red) design of the train set fit in perfectly with the other decor I have going on this year.
For the white sofas, the holiday pillow covers from Wayfair that I ordered last year are still going strong! They pull in the red pops from the tree and the midnight blue tone in the rug perfectly!
Having a white base helps when it comes to adding bold pillows. Cute little red truck pillow (from the Target Dollar Spot) add some fun!
I kept the wreath and the bell hanger on the door the same this year, with the exception of adding a bit more color with the mini-glass ornaments. Lots of candlelight always brings such warmth to all holiday decor!
Adding lots of pretty candles + holders to display throughout the home is so simple , yet makes a huge impact! Anything that lights up is usually a big hit with kids , too! I always like to add any extra ornaments I have to pretty apothecary jars to decorate our bar area. Simple and looks festive!
I kept the holiday drink station really simple by adding fun mugs and this Winter Bucket List. Holiday flavored creamer and coffee really makes a drink station festive! Don’t forget the hot chocolate!
I added a few small things to JP’s room this year, including a 4 ft tree that’s just his size! He was happy to help mommy decorate it this year. I kept things simple and did a vintage Christmas and snowman theme.
He has been really into having the tree and some decor in his room this year!
He picked out the little red truck ornament and he loves to read by the little tree at bedtime!
Our front porch even got a little update by adding a simple lightly flocked wreath with pinecones hung by a darling little snowflake wreath hanger. I wanted something that I could leave up all winter long, not just for Christmastime!
My goal when decorating and shopping for Christmas is always to make my home reflective of the true beauty of the season; the birth of Christ. Just as I said last year:
“A warm, pretty, and welcoming atmosphere is really easy to create when you focus on filling your home with the people and the things that you truly love.”
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and got some good ideas from it to use in your own home! Below I have listed some things on my wishlist at Wayfair.com. Just click each image to shop!
Happy Holidays and happy shopping, my friends!
How do you get inspired to decorate your home for Christmas? I’d love to hear from you!
A special Thanks to Wayfair.com and Lindsay for inviting me to join the fun!
