Staying connected with God can be a struggle when life gets busy. Countless things call for our attention every day, and usually it starts from the minute we wake up in the morning. If we are not careful, sometimes too much time goes by before we even realize that we have neglected our relationship with the Lord.
I know all too well how difficult it can be to stay close to God throughout the day, especially with a little one to care for and with the many things that must be done each day. No matter how busy we are, it’s amazing to know that God is never too busy for us. Instead, He’s patiently waiting for us to come to Him and for us to abide in Him.
I have some simple ways to stay connected to God no matter how crazy the day gets. These are simple tips that help me reconnect. I hope you find encouragement and useful ideas!
4 Simple Ways to Stay Close to God Throughout the Day
Give God the First Part of Each Day
Before rushing to get ready for the day or to prep for the day, let God be the first to get your thoughts and attention. Allow God’s grace to equip you for the day ahead.
Listen to Worship Music
Play worship music as you go through the course of the day. Listen as you do the usual ‘everyday’ things – like getting ready in the morning, cooking, cleaning, caring for your family, working, exercising, and even driving. Worship music is soothing and fills our hearts with praise. This fills the atmosphere with God’s presence and allows everyone near to experience God in a unique way. We love to listen to worship music during nap and rest times. Our favorite right now is anything by Hillsong United.
Talk to God Throughout the Day – Pray without Ceasing
Talk to God continually while doing daily activities and tasks. He wants to fellowship with us just as much as we desire to fellowship with Him. When out for a walk or running errands around town, thank God for the beautiful things that He has created. Simply make a habit of counting your blessings aloud.
Read Devotions and Start a Gratitude Journal
Find devotions that you enjoy and can apply to your life. Since devotions are usually fairly short and meant to be easy to read within a few minutes, try reading a devotion anytime you get a break in your day. Gratitude Journals are also a wonderful way to take time out to reconnect with God. Both sources enrich your relationship of God and strengthen you in spirit.
