Wisdom is based on knowledge and can be defined as having good judgment, or as the quality of being wise. For Christians, Godly wisdom is something to seek on a constant basis and is easily obtained by spending quality time with God. Understanding what is true, right, or lasting from God’s perspective helps us to be one after His own heart. Since God is all-knowing, seeking His wisdom enables us to be confident concerning decisions that we make in our day-to-day life.
As human beings, we can be wrong at times but God is never wrong! He designed and created everything…He is the source. Its important to note that Godly wisdom is not related to our own intelligence, life experiences, or academic training that we may have. One wonderful thing about God is that He freely gives wisdom to those who humble themselves enough to seek and ask for it!
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. ( James 1:5-8 NLT)
Seeking wisdom should be a constant pursuit in the life of a Christian, so we must make gaining wisdom an actual desire of the heart. Wisdom has to be viewed as something valuable to us, as well as something that is vital in our walk with God. His word advises us to:
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures. (Proverbs 2:2-4 NLT)
It is true that we will never reach the end of knowing Him more and learning more from Him. The Bible is our handbook for how to live, and God speaks to us and reveals His wisdom through His word. When we hear God’s word and appropriately apply it to our lives, we gain lasting happiness.
