Not only do we find joy with having a grateful attitude, but the Lord also finds joy in us having it. Having a heart that is thankful keeps us in a positive state of mind. Deliberately focusing more on God’s goodness- not ourselves- keeps us from negative thinking that can lead to an ungrateful heart.
Our thoughts are so powerful, but words are just as powerful in overcoming negative thoughts that sometimes seem to creep in to our minds. Remembering to focus on what we do have, and not so much on what we do not have keeps the heart grateful.
Choosing to say “thank you” a lot more than we complain or find the negative in something is a practice that will make the heart more grateful.
The more we thank God we discover that it enables us to trust Him more. He protects us, guides us, and adores us. Give thanks in everything- no matter the circumstances– and your heart will become more grateful, equally restoring joy to your soul.
Action Plan:
Start a Gratitude Journal. Take time to look back at past entries that reveal things you were grateful for in specific times in your life. This will help you tangibly notice even more that God is a provider who is with you every step of the way.
*my favorite one is a coloring journal but there are many different styles available depending on what you like*
Additional Verses for Further Study:
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” (Psalm 107:1)
Prayer Starter:
“Lord, Thank you for the many blessings your give! In the past I may have not gotten it right, but today I am full of gratitude toward You. Father, You are loving, You are faithful, and You are my provider.”
Wishing you all a great week!
