Everything God asks us to do is for our gain. The verse above is one that is near and dear to my heart. I often hear the Lord softly whisper these words to me. It is true that some of us have personality types that tend to over-think and sometimes even that try to have complete control situations in life. Being sensitive to the Holy Spirit by taking the time to really be still (to be quiet; to hush) allows us to be filled with encouragement, zeal, and wisdom given so graciously by God.
God made everything and therefore is in control of everything, He wants us to put all that worries us into His hands. The act of trusting Him fully and acknowledging that He is Lord of everything shows God just how much He means to us.
When we feel fearful and anxious, we have to get in the habit of casting down those negative thoughts and feelings, in turn, replacing them with positive words. Everything about God is positive! If you have trouble finding positive words to replace negative thoughts in your mind, always refer to the Bible. The Bible is full of reminders of how highly God thinks of us and it is written like a giant love letter to us all; God letting us know His thoughts of total adoration towards us.
Instead of choosing to relax your mind and calm thoughts by watching more television, talking long hours to a friend, going online for hours, or even listening to some music to escape, the wiser choice would be to go to a quiet place to spend time with God, just appreciating who He is. When we do this, we are guaranteed to leave that quiet time in a better state of mind that is full of peace.
We all have to decide that we will not only feed our bodies good things, but also our minds and our spirit good things. This allows more room for only good things flow out, which then makes a much better quality of life for us and also for those we come in contact with daily.
People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4 NLT)
