DIY Holiday Drink Station

The holiday season brings to mind family, friends, sweet treats, lots of good comfort food, warm drinks, and all things cozy. This year, I decided to make a festive DIY holiday drink station in one area of my kitchen and I love the way it turned out! It is so easy for anyone to build a drink station and it just makes an everyday thing like having a warm drink just a bit more fun!  It’s also great to have around when guests are over. Below is how mine turned out using mostly items I already had at home:

These are the things needed other than your drink machine/coffee maker:

  • a decorative tray
  • a tiered stand
  • air-tight containers for candy canes and marshmallows
  • cake stand
  • an assortment of drink options including hot chocolate varieties, coffee, cappuccino, teas, apple cider, and iced coffee packets
  • appetizer plates
  • mugs and disposable to-go cups
  • sweet treats
  • jar (s) for sugar and creamer
  • fun straws
  • a cute themed sign or photo – I made this Winter Bucket List Plaque I had work, although it’s not quite Winter yet 🙂

While most of the items were things I already had at home, the other small things were found either at The Dollar Tree, Michael’s, or the Target Dollar spot for a steal! I think the white mini cake stand is too cute and the white makes it easy to use year round. The adorable Winter Checklist is something I was so happy to find at an after Christmas sale last year for next to nothing at Kirkland’s. This is the perfect spot for it! I just added a black wooden easel under it for some height and to make it interchangeable. To have fun with it all, I went with a mixture of drinks to choose from. I keep the overflow items in the pantry and re-fill when things get low and need refreshing. Holiday themed sweet treats in a small bowl are great here for quick grab and go snacking. I will switch these out using little iced gingerbread men cookies and frosted Christmas tree brownies throughout the upcoming weeks 🙂 The gold monogram mugs are some favorites from Christmas time last year. Williams-Sonoma Hot Chocolate is so delicious, makes awesome Christmas gifts, and I love the tins the chocolate shavings come in! The charming little jar labeled “sugar” is part of a trio, gifted to me by my mom a few years ago~I thought it was perfect for this area.

How cute are these little Polar Bear mugs and candy jars from The Dollar Tree!?  They really have some great Christmas things this year! I will switch out the monogrammed letter B mugs with these polar bear mugs from time to time. These air-tight containers from The Dollar Tree were just the perfect size for my mini candy canes and fun marshmallows! These marshmallows are not only adorable and cupcake shaped, but they are RED VELVET CUPCAKE FLAVORED! Yummy!!!

Very simple to do , right? I have really enjoyed getting everything set up a little earlier than I usually do as far as decorating for Christmas goes! This little DIY holiday drink station is new for me this year, so fun to have around, and really makes the perfect addition to everything else. This will be Jacob’s 1st Christmas and we are looking forward to it for sure! I am thinking I will try to keep the drink station set up all year round and just change out themed items and drink types and flavors with each season that comes.

I would love to know: what items do you add to your DIY holiday drink station?

Thanks for reading!

Front Porch Style and a Little DIY

Houseguests want to feel warm, welcomed, and invited to come in to your home. Our front porch style choices give visitors an idea of what’s to come once they are actually inside the home. I had held off on really doing much to my front porch because I wasn’t thrilled about some of the styling options I had seen in stores around me.  Also, I have been so focused on the inside of my home over the years, that the front porch sadly got a little neglected other than us adding a simple fleur-de-lys doormat that often got accessorized only by the occasional FedEx package delivery positioned off to the side of it…SO not exciting and SO not what I wanted for that space! I knew early on that I wanted to incorporate this existing rug in my design process.  I was beyond ready to fancy the front porch up a bit. I started by brainstorming exactly how I was going to fix up this small transitional space that leads into our home. I kept these ideas in mind so that I got the outcome that I had dreamt up:

  1. I wanted a cheerful look that reflected the family who lives inside and the design style of our home collectively.
  2. I wanted a simple and chic set up with a unique piece or two.
  3. I wanted something I could use all year round, no matter the season or upcoming holiday. I love being able to keep the same staple pieces and add fun themed accents and colors based on what season it is or upcoming holidays we have.

With these wants being my focus, I began “dreaming and visualizing” what I wanted my porch to look like. I immediately thought how cool it would be to have black and white striped pots! Black and white stripes are not only chic, but are classic as well. In fact, I love this lovely duo so much that I have accents in this loved pattern scattered here and there throughout my home. I couldn’t find black and white striped flowerpots anywhere, so I decided to DIY them. I thought: How hard could it be? Just a few inexpensive items totally transformed the solid black plastic planters found at my local home improvement store! It was really easy since the base color of the pots was already black. All I needed was the black flower pots, white glossy spray paint, clear protective sealant, and some masking tape. Once the stripes were all done, I decided to add a pop of color with some yellow mums.  Last,  I added a DIY burlap and lace wreath with some fun accents that can be changed out based on what season it is or what look I want, and an oh-so-cute “hello.” decal for that cheerful finishing touch. Here’s the before and after.

Before

After

To say I love how my little weekend DIY project turned out would be an understatement… it is all exactly what I wanted! Once I finished, I began to get even more inspired and thought for a different look, the option of fun black and white harlequin patterned flowerpots clustered with these would be just dreamy. Another idea is to cluster fun black and white geometric smaller scale pots to complement these.  Oh, and just think how fabulous RED accents, such as a few red smaller fun shaped pots and some red flowers  instead of yellow would look with these stripes??? Drooling!!! Bottom line: The styling possibilities are endless…and I like that 🙂  I can’t wait to try out some more looks with these striped pots of mine!

Mission: Accomplished!

I’d love to hear from you! What fun items do you use to spruce up your front porch?

Have a great day!
